Porsche Restoration Las Vegas Will Porsche Purists Hate Me?

Will Porsche purists hate me? - porsche restoration las vegas

I have an 83 928S with 130,000 miles on the odometer. It was only through the nose to the restoration of the tail on the body and interior, but the engine and trans are original. My mechanic said the engine was difficult to be headed by the former owners, and not least a year. It is proposed that the exchange LSI (Chevrolet V8) to be a good idea if the motor fails. The alternative is very expensive rebuilt 928 engines. I love this car, but he fears he will lose his Porsche-ness, if I put a Porsche engine .. However, it is efficient and reliable. Considerations on the advisability of this change, which I drove the Porsche Club of America for this hybrid car? Thank you for your comments.

  1. The SBC is a good choice, either as an upgrade in performance for most of the 928S, either as an economic alternative in such situations. The good points are more or less like you - to describe a better performance at lower cost, and probably the lowest cost of long term maintenance (and potential performance)-improvement.

What are the negitive? The first is that not be beaten "Porsche". Of course, depending on the point of view, maybe even more! But if you like the SBC is 928, the change in the character of the vehicle. During the trip, in addition to the engine sound is not as big change as some are mine.

Another potential problem is that if you are involved in similar Autox or tests against the clock or with the CPA. Assuming that the local rules of the region considered to be a swap for your car is probably in the same category as someone who has managed to change a space to be classified turbo'd 908 engine 914 in their 1000 books! To sum up, if you have not made it a performance of the NiceDegrees, most likely to fall well below the class

This change is probably a negitive effect on the value of the car. While this is well below the cost difference between the engines, it should still be fine.

Consequently, everything he says ... If you keep a car that is competitive as a collector, I see no reason to suspend all originals. And even if you are in the PCA Autox or Time Trial, which involved 928 is often less than the competition anyway, so that the change in the class leaves no doubt worse than decreasing. Even if the exchange is a success and the attention to detail that eventually get better, to be. The engine sound will change, but it sounds like SBC are also very nice.

What do hate the "purists" ... You have a car with an engine cooled by water in front, you will not be back with more purist than when you started!

  3. Yes, I am a purist, and despise the idea of these swaps. If you remove the engine, remove the heart and soul of the car and the IMO is not a Porsche, but only a bastard. I have no problem if you have a 944/928/911 or find someone else from a junkyard or a broken engine, and made the exchange. But please .. We do not destroy a current example of Nice.

  5. Why do you care that some people think in a club car to your car?

If there is a way to repair the car and spend less money and more power, so that's what I am without a doubt.

Also LS1 engine is a very good and can be greatly modified, so that if you just want to trash and vehicles do not talk about it then talk.

  6. Be sure to remove the script CHEBY Porsche and "logos placed, can make a big" 350ci "on the front bumper, front opening wheelwell. APC break your flash memory card and not the light, if you have a real Porsche.

  8. I would be the Bucks for the engine of 928 a little more.
Otherwise, is not a complete recovery. Let wollow American cars in the world of 70 MPH as extreme, while you can rocket back roads with an original 928th

  10. You will probably be expelled from the Porsche Club of America, because this is a Chevrolet.
